Learning outcomes
this is an intermediate level course in statistical analysis, which implies basic knowledge in statistics as studied during the first psychology degree. the copurse is aimed at helping students to develop practical skills on analysis of psychological data using inferential statistics with multivariate tests.
Course contents
The course will focus on the use of the General Linear Model for SPSS, which will be used for the Analysis of varicance (ANOVA), after verifying ANOVA assumptions. Will be used factorial ANOVA with multiple factors, ANOVA for repeated measures, analysis of covariance (ANCOVA), and Multivariate analysis of variance (MANOVA).
Teaching methods
Theacher’s lessons and practical guided activity for statistical analysis of actual psychological databases, discussion about both procedures and results.
Assessment methods
The final exam consists of a practical collective examination, which will take place in the computer lab. It will last 1 our involving 40 students at the time. Each student will receive a SPSS database of actual psychological data and will be required to define the hypotheses, to run the appropriate statistical analyses, and to discuss the results obtained.
Teaching tools
The focus is conceptual rather than mathematical, practical rather than theoretical to allow clinical psychology students formulating hypotheses of research, identifying an appropriate statistic to test them, and interpreting correctly the results. Lessons will take place in the computer lab.
