The course will introduce students on computer-assisted musical/musicological disciplines.

From sound to recording

From recording to reproducing

From analog to digital

Digital elaboration and audio encoding

Audio restoration

 

  • Digital acquisition of the sound: sampling and analogical-digital conversion
  • Editing and Mastering
  • Elements of audio restoration
  • Elements of analysis of the sound: extrapolation of the pitch, visualization and study of the sound spectrum
  • Ear training
  • Transcription and notation

Teaching methods

Theorical-practical lessons will be carried out in computer laboratory.

Assessment methods

The examination, for attending and not attending students, will consist in a theorical-practical test to the computer.

 

Student will have to demonstrate to know the following software and book:

 

  • Adobe Audition or Audacity
  • Praat (used with DPlot for the realization of diagrams)
  • GVox Encore or Finale NotePad 2007
