Learning outcomes

The course is aiming at providing a general knowledge of law regulating the tourism industry in Europe and particularly the law and policy governing agency and distribution, passenger transport, traveller accommodation, activities and attractions, paying particular attention to the most visited countries as France, Italy and the United Kingdom. In addition the course will provide a general overview of law regulating urban planning. At the end of the course, students will be able to consider and discuss the function and effectiveness of the law regulating tourism.

Course contents

The course shall deepen the main institutes of transport and tourism law , with particular reference to the practical aspects concerned with their application in international and European Union environments.

The activities shall be particularly focused on:

1. the sources of transport and tourism law, with specific reference to international and European law;

2. The players of the tourism activities: the voyager, the passenger and the tourist; the tour operator and the intermediary travel agencies; the suppliers of tourism services; International organizations and European Union organizations;

3. Transport contracts: booking of transport services, air transport, maritime transport, road transport, rail transport and the other transport modes;

4.tourism contracts: booking of tourism services, hotel accommodation and deposit in hotel, rental of vehicles, tourism packages and intermediation contracts, other tourism contracts;

5. recreational boating contracts;

6. contracts and relationships among transport companies, suppliers of packages and tourism services, online commercial distribution operators.

The texts indicated above and the materials handed out during the lessons regarding international rules, European Union legislation, case law and contractual models shall be available during the course

Teaching methods

Traditional lessons are aimed to provide the fundamental knowledge. Seminars shall be held to deepen the learning of the various issues and practical drills shall be run to strengthen the capability of fully understand the juridical issues, as well as to develop communication skills and autonomy of judgement. During the lessons, the seminars and the drills the most relevant decisions and case law as well as the most significant contractual models shall be examined. The materials handed out during the lessons shall be available on the web

Assessment methods

The method to test the knowledge shall consist in an oral exam on the entire program. The exam shall consist in 3 questions on the various parts of the program, each of which shall be graded 10\30. Pass shall be obtained with no less than 6\10 for each question. The final grade shall be the total of the sum of the 3 partial results.
