Learning outcomes

At the end of the module the student will be able to read into contemporary visual communication phenomena and techniques, through the use of basic methodological tools. He or she will also have the knowledge of the basic elements of typography, in relation to: geometry as a language; the visual field; sign systems; the design of two-dimensional artifacts. Furthermore, the student will learn the fundamental elements of color theory, the choice of typographic characters, the graphic layout and finally the skills to transfer what has been learned into a design project.

Course contents

The aim is to invite the students to develop and put into practice meaningful ideas in a shared way with others through a journey that goes from theoretical aspects to technical implementation with the most suitable tools.

Teaching methods

The theoretical apparatus of the course will be distributed across the course (theoretical and technical lectures, assigned topics) while the technical/practical ones will emerge in more specific ways (exercises, projects).

Assessment methods

During the course various assignments and micro-exercises will be carried out (within the lessons) in order to monitor the students' work and the transposition of the topics covered.

Teaching tools

Students will be provided with lecture slides and handouts as supplementary materials.
