Learning outcomes
At the end of the module the student will possess the knowledge and the ability to apply the principles of physical therapy and the manual massage techniques, through an accurate knowledge of therapeutic indications and contraindications.
Course contents
MASSAGE THERAPY:
- 1) Physiology of therapeutic massage.
- 2) Indications and contraindications.
- 3) The 5 maneuvers of therapeutic massage.
- 4) Face, head and neck massage; abdominal and chest massage.
- 5) Massage of the upper limb and hand.
- 6) Massage of the lower limb and foot.
- 7) Back massage.
- 8) Scar tissue massage and management.
PHYSICAL THERAPY:
Introduction and general information.
- 1) Phototherapy (ultraviolet ray therapy)
- 2) Thermotherapy
- 3) Magnetic field therapy
- 4) Ultrasound therapy
- 5) Electrotherapy
- 6) Laser therapy
Teaching methods
Lectures supported by practical exercises, use of slides and educational material.
Assessment methods
The learning assessment method will take place through an oral test.
Practical test in pairs of students in order to verify the learning of manual skills, as practiced during the lessons.
The final grade is determined by a mathematical average of the two tests.
Teaching tools
During the lessons there will be practical exercises and the slides of the theoretical part will be distributed
