87476 - CADD of Mechanical Systems t

Academic Year 2022/2023

  • Teaching Mode: Traditional lectures
  • Campus: Bologna
  • Corso: First cycle degree programme (L) in Mechanical Engineering (cod. 0927)

Learning outcomes

The course provides application tools for the development of groups or overall of machines designed to perform specific functions. The student will become familiar with the modeling, verification and validation of machine parts of varying complexity also through the use of calculation methodologies that make use of the computer. The support of a three-dimensional and parametric CAD system will provide the student with the basis for deepening the morphological and functional characteristics of classical mechanical components and their composition in assemblies typical of mechanical constructions.

Course contents

-Definition of the modern design process contextualized to the various application areas.
-The tasks of the designer.
-The organization of the documentation and the construction concept.
-The software currently available.
-Possibility of available software.
-General classification of the types of machines: customer expectations.
- Advanced assembly and assembly criteria.
-Advanced modeling.
- Outsourcing.
- Verification of the components from a geometric point of view.
-The verification of components and assemblies from the kineto-static point of view.
-Structural verification.
-The fluid dynamics verification.
- The evaluation of the overall reliability.
-The planning of the maintenance process.

Readings/Bibliography

It is not necessary to purchase specific books. Up-to-date teaching material is provided in class, also available via username and password at AMS Campus - AlmaDL - University of Bologna.

Teaching methods

The teaching consists of lectures and a project that is assigned to the individual student. Periodically, the student goes to receive the teacher who checks the progress of the project and suggests any improvements and corrections.

Assessment methods

The end-of-course exam aims to assess the achievement of educational objectives:
- Know the design process
- Know the main CAD / CAE design tools
- Know the main validation criteria of a project,
through an oral test, on two specific questions on topics related to the main objectives of the course and on the evaluation of the individual project.

Teaching tools

The teaching material presented in class will be made available to the student in electronic format via the internet.
