06551 - Neurophysiology (A-K)

Academic Year 2019/2020

  • Teaching Mode: Traditional lectures
  • Campus: Bologna
  • Corso: Single cycle degree programme (LMCU) in Medicine and Surgery (cod. 8415)

Learning outcomes

Knowledge of the physiological bases of:

- the activity of the cerebral cortex;

- the physiological principles of electroencephalographic recordings;

- the control of movement.

In particular, the learning outcomes will focus on:

- the somatosensory cortex and its anatomical and functional links with the associative cortical areas;

- the most common rhythms of the electroencephalogram and their dependence on the behavioral states;

- the cerebral cortical control of movements and its modulation by the cerebellum and the basal nuclei.

Course contents

Anatomical and functional organization of the cerebral cortex, the basal nuclei, and the cerebellum.

The control of movement by the cerebral cortex and its regulation by the cerebellum and the basal nuclei.

Features and circadian organization of the behavioral states.

Mechanisms and interpretation of the main rhythms of the electroencephalogram.
