72594 - Economic Management of Protected Natural Areas

Learning outcomes

The course aims to provide the technical, regulatory and economic needed to understand the main problems of the management of protected areas and rural areas of value to be protected in the interests of conservation and economic exploitation. The management requires proper evaluation through appropriate forecasting models will be offered during the course, will be analyzed the main elements of tools and techniques for analysis of both monetary and non-monetary

Course contents

Teaching Unit 1 (5 hours)  
Results: the student comes to the knowledge of the main issues of sustainable development: 
- Theoretical concept of sustainable development; 
- Key issues (demographic, economic, ecological,) local and global; 
- Institutional problems, the link between economic growth, population and the environment; 
- The role of technology. 
  Teaching Unit 2 (10 hours)
Results: the student according to theoretical indications d el sustainable development, comes to learning the methodological basis of the economy of the environment, in particular, are set out in the reference models for the evaluation:
- The pollution problems of agro-livestock
- The environmental services generated from agriculture
- The management of natural resources, with a microeconomic perspective.

Teaching Unit 3 (15 hours)

Results: The student will have an overview of the tools for evaluating action and agricultural policies with significant environmental effects. We will analyze the historical phases of the PAC and rural development. The investigations will include:
- Evolution of the regulatory framework of support introduced by the PAC and agri-environmental programs;
- Objectives of the new PAC 2014/2020
- Plans for regional rural development with particular attention to the measures and actions for the protection of natural ecosystems.
- Protected areas and environmental protection actions (Framework Law on Protected Areas Law of 6 December 1991, no. 394)

Teaching methods

The course is mainly done through lectures with video projection of power point with the possibility of exercises in the computer lab and seminars by experts in the field

Assessment methods

The course is part of the course intergrated "Controllo della fauna selvatica e gestione economica delle aree protette" along with the following other teaching: "Gestione economica delle aree protette". Therefore, the verification will be carried out only at the end of the lessons of the teachings mentioned and will consist of an oral examination of 30 minutes, carried out in the presence of two faculty members, which will be formulated two questions, one for teaching. Each answer will be awarded up to 15 points. The average of the two scores will be the final grade.
