- Docente: Laura Garuti
- Credits: 8
- Language: Italian
- Teaching Mode: Traditional lectures
- Campus: Bologna
- Corso: Single cycle degree programme (LMCU) in Chemistry and Pharmaceutical Technologies (cod. 8412)
Learning outcomes
At the end of the course, which also provides laboratory exercises in a single place, the student acquires the knowledge and practice for the recognition and verification of purity of compounds of pharmaceutical interest, in inorganic structure, by means of specific chemical assays and analytical techniques. And 'able to apply the acquired knowledge to the use of the methods reported in the Italian Official Pharmacopoeia and European Pharmacopoeia.
Course contents

Teaching methods
32 hours of theoretical lessons held by the professor from October to January, and 48 hours of individual practical work, supervised by the same professor, distributed among 16 consecutive afternoons.
Assessment methods
The examination at the end of the course aims to assess the
achievement of learning objectives:
- Know and know how to apply in practice the characteristic
reactions of cations and anions identification of individual
components of inorganic drugs;
- Know and know how to apply in practice the characteristic
reactions (limit tests) to assess the purity of inorganic raw
materials, following the methods reported in the Italian Official
Pharmacopoeia and European Pharmacopoeia;
- Knowledge of action and toxicity of inorganic compounds of
pharmaceutical interest;
- Know and apply in practice ion-exchange chromatography; -
Demonstrate ability to learn the material that they can integrate
the knowledge gained in the course with those of previous years and
to be able to deal with the courses of the following years.
The assessment of learning is implemented through practical test
laboratory, carried out at the end of the exercises in a single
place, and oral examination. The test practice, unlimited validity,
is preliminary oral examination.
Students to whom the Board of Study Course validates the signature
frequency acquired in previous career, they must pass the test
laboratory practice before the oral exam.
The final grade for the course Analysis of Medicines I is defined
by the oral test on three specific questions on topics related to
the main objectives of the course.
Note: To access the teaching (lectures and exercises) must have passed the examination of General and Inorganic Chemistry
