  • SSD: BIO/17
  • Language: Italian
  • Teaching Mode: Traditional lectures
  • Campus: Bologna
  • Corso: Single cycle degree programme (LMCU) in Medicine and Surgery (cod. 8415)

Learning outcomes

Knowledge and understanding of the hematopoietic system under normal and pathological situations and implications for regenerative medicine. Ability to gather and interpret relevant data for independent judgment in the field of human morphological sciences. Ability to transfer the knowledge gained in the field of morphology to a wide biomedical audience. Learning concepts and advanced technologies that will allow to better understand the topics of study of the following years.

Course contents

1.General description of the transduction signal

2.The hematopoietic stem cell and the extrinsic control of its differentiation

3.The receptors for proliferation and differentiation specific growth factors

4. Signal transduction from receptors for proliferation-specific growth factors: the concept of regulatory “nicheâ€

5. Signal transduction from receptors for differentiation specific growth factors – erythropoietin as example of hormone that regulates the process of erythroid differentiation

6. Morphology as basis for clinical manifestation

7. Alterations of signal transduction in the pathobiology of congenic ematopoietic diseases

8. Alterations of signal transduction in the pathobiology of acquired hematopoietic diseases
