Learning outcomes

Through the participation to the Laboratory, students develop the transversal skills necessary to practically process the knowledge acquired in the course of study. By the end of the course, they are expected to be able to collect, organise, and analyse complex information and to present the outcomes of his/her analysis in written and oral form.

Course contents

The workshop deals with some of the central themes of political and social theory which are related to the history of the concept of development, througout the analysis of texts and debates.


The aim is to highlight the importance of an historical methodology for the political analysis of mundialization processes, neo-liberal reconfiguration of the State and the theorizing of social and popular movements.

Particular attention will be paid to the contributions of Latin American political sociology.

Teaching methods

 

The teaching metodology includes: teacher's lesson, discussion in class, groups presentations (the groups will be organized at the beginning of the Laboratory, according to the number of attending students).

The aim of the teaching methodology adopted is to activate the critical analysis and informed discussion of theoretical and historical problems and to facilitate the interaction between the instructor and the students, as well as among the students themselves.

Assessment methods

Particular importance will be given to the reading of the texts assigned for each session  and to the student ability to demonstrate his/her critical capacities through active and informed participation in the discussion.

Final assessment: elaboration of a paper on one of the topics covered in class and previously agreed with the teacher.
