MED EU - Matching Excellence Directly for EU

MED EU is a strategic platform supported by the Emilia-Romagna Region aiming to raise EU funds for scientific research and innovation.

The platform is composed of the University of Bologna, which coordinates the project, and the main clinical institutes in Bologna city: the S.Orsola-Malpighi University Hospital, the Rizzoli Institute for Orthopedics and the Institute for Neurologic Sciences.  All members’ excellences  vary from life sciences to ethics, from systems biology to neurology, from genomics to orthopaedics, from bioinformatics to ageing.

Mission

In line with the increasing demand expressed from the EU Health Strategy "Together for Health" for interdisciplinary research throughout the EU, MED EU’s mission is to bridge the gap between biomedical research and clinical practice, and doing so, to improve EU patients’ quality of life.

MED EU’s main challenge, indeed, is to be a point of reference for public and private R&D and health institutions, gathering all different research and clinical excellences in a unique catalyst platform, able to boost networking and lobbying capabilities.

More namely, MED EU’s medium and long term goals are to strengthen international partnerships, boost the number of EU funding applications in the fields of regional health services, and to promote the excellence of regional research and training centers worldwide.

Competences

MED EU staff is composed of senior scientific advisors who have research experience in a broad range of scientific fields: pharmaceutical chemistry, cell and molecular biology, oncology and experimental pathology, and EU law. Their past scientific background, together with their management expertise, allow each advisor to be a referee within their own institution for researchers who want to apply for EU funding and manage EU projects.

MED EU team provides assistance in the choice of the most suitable EU funding programs to apply; network building and strategy development, especially for new applicants;  ad-hoc advisory and management of EU and international projects throughout their entire life cycle; long-lasting mentoring and coaching.

What we offer to external partners

MED EU is an effective platform for networking and matchmaking. It allows to find the right partner for projects in health and applied biomedical research, since it gets in contact with researchers and medical scientists from four of the largest and most prestigious scientific and medical institutions in Bologna.
