The Times Higher Education University Impact Rankings, which assesses universities’ social impact in terms of sustainable development, place the University of Bologna among the top 10 in the world.
The rankings, the only global performance tables of this kind, use the goals set by the United Nations in the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development as indicators and analyse how universities across the world work to make a positive impact on society. In its first edition, which includes approximately 500 universities, the University of Bologna appears in 9th position in the overall ranking and 1st in Italy.
Looking in detail at the indicators used, the University of Bologna obtained very good results throughout, some of which outstanding. In particular, it ranked fourth in the world in terms of “Quality Education”, which assesses universities’ ability to offer quality, inclusive and innovative education, and fourth in the world in terms of “Gender Equality”, in consideration of the policies it adopts to eliminate gender inequalities. Additionally, it ranked sixth in the world for “Decent Work and Economic Growth”, which measures research quality in economic fields and the ability of universities to offer their students and graduates contact opportunities with the world of work.
These important achievements are the result of the University’s hard work and focus on promoting sustainable development over the last few years. In fact, the University has based its strategic plan directly on the seventeen goals in UN’s 2030 Agenda, in order to contribute to their achievement with all its activities. Additionally, the University monitors the direct and indirect impact of its institutional activities in a series of annual reports and through initiatives, published on the AlmaGoals website, that aim at engaging and raising awareness among the university community and beyond.
