Learning outcomes

At the end, students acquire the basic concepts and scientific language of economics, the main policies that guide the system's development, knowledge of the characteristics of the agri-environment system, the people involved and their role, as well as the main references of agri-law. In particular, the student is able to interpret the operation of the system and the relationships that develop between stakeholders, with particular reference to the subject of the course of study, as well as set the calculation of the operating costs of production processes in the industry horticultural and achievements in green. At the end the student has an overview of useful knowledge for analyzing the agri-environment system economically.

Course contents

Teaching unit 1- Economics and business: evolution in the agricultural sector (10 hours)
- Introduction to the course;
- The role of agriculture and its evolution over time according to sector policies. The external conditions to the entrepreneur's choices. General on the importance of agricultural policy interventions and their evolution over time;
- Characteristics of the company and the enterprise: forms and evolution;
Teaching Unit 2 - Agricultural and environmental policy: evolution and reforms (20 hours)
- The European Community, its successive extensions and related issues. Institutions of U.E. The budget dell'U.E .: provenance of the sources and uses of the different sectors (agriculture, industry, research, cohesion, etc.). structural funds and agricultural funds: ERDF, ESF, EAFRD, EAGF;
- The Common Agricultural Policy (CAP). The pricing policy and structures. The revision of the common agricultural policy through reforms: the objectives, the instruments. The rural development policy;
- The CAP 2014-2020: direct payments, the RDP, the single CMO;
- Rural Development Plan 2014-2020: Main them measures for habitat restoration and management of natural resources and landscape management.
Teaching Unit 3 - Models of analysis of investment and management and business planning (20 hours)
- The agrarian entity's financial statements (5 hours):
* Structure of the budget civilistic
* The balance sheet
* The income statement
* Reclassification of income statement and balance sheet ratios
- Strategic decisions: investment (10 hours):
* The concept of investment
* Tools for the investment decisions: cost-benefit analysis for interventions in farm
* Project Interventions and management of natural areas on farms
* Analysis of the assessment of the economic and financial feasibility of the projects included in the RDP
- Project for the development of measures of regional RDP on a farm (5 hours):
* Description of the environmental measures of the RDP;
* Planning farm to agro-environmental address.
Content of laboratory activities (10 hours)
The laboratory activities are an integral part of teaching and are aimed at enhancing understanding of the topics covered in the classroom, and to facilitate the alignment of prior knowledge. Students will also be called to build independently, albeit with the assistance of the teacher:
- Spreadsheets useful for the performance of business analysis;
- Depth of agro-environmental measures of the new PSR:
- Application of agro-environmental measures in a case of a business study;

- analysis of the economic convenience to the realization of greenhouses for the production of ornamental plants;

- analysis of the annual management of companies for the maintenance of ornamental greenery.

the course material consists of the slides presented in class and made available to students in the appropriate web site.

Teaching methods

The course is mainly done through lectures with video projection of power point with the possibility of laboratory exercises of computer science and seminars by experts on the subject especially as regards rural development policies and actual cases of agro-livestock farms that have applied models financing for the management and enhancement of the rural landscape.

Assessment methods

The knowledge and skills imparted by this teaching are evaluated as follows: oral examination at the end of the course of instruction possibly preceded by checks written in the pipeline.
Establishment of a business development project by applying the main agro-environmental measures of the regional RDP: the aforementioned project is developed during the course to groups of students
The oral test has an average duration of 20-30 minutes where the student answers questions on the topics covered and provides for the execution of some financial mathematical exercises
