Travel and Travelers in the Middle Ages (Prof. Paolo Pirillo) This course is proposed in the second semester
Medieval society was characterized by a great mobility: someone traveled for commercials raisons, others were in search of fortune, work, for surviving or debts, because they had troubles with the law, or political problems or for religious sensibility (pilgrimage). This has produced a conspicuous literature of traveling and pilgrim’s diaries wich provide rich historical evidences on culture and religious meaning of medieval society.
Feminist Historiography - Storiografia femminista/ Women's movements worldwide - I movimenti delle donne nel mondo. This course is proposed in the first semester
The module deals with the history of women and gender relations in contemporary times. Through lectures and critical reading of original sources, the course aims to develop the emancipation process and construction of female citizenship on both a social and then political level. Still in keeping with a comparative perspective, the module will address women's emancipation movements in and outside Europe; the theme of women’s education and women in the workplace; periods of discord and unity; the struggle to acquire the main political and social rights; the question of memory.
