1Europe: the UNA Europa project for the University of the Future

1Europe sets out to create a university campus at the European level, testing innovative teaching methods, joint learning and public engagement, encouraging mobility of both students and staff and building the necessary tools for a truly cooperative research system.

1Europe

Four main themes are at the heart of 1Europe: European studies, sustainability, cultural heritage and data science and AI. Today, an event in Bruxelles officially launches the project.

Led by the UNA Europa network, of which the University of Bologna is a founding member, 1Europe is funded by the European Commission with 5 million euro from the Erasmus+ programme. In the next three years, this project sets out to lay the foundations of the university of the future, testing innovative teaching, joint learning and public engagement, promoting mobility among both students, and teaching and technical-administrative staff across the universities which are part of the UNA Europa network. Furthermore, 1Europe will allow the network to build the technological infrastructures and the community web of relations which are necessary to enhance cooperation in every context of research.

Besides the Alma Mater, the UNA Europa network comprises other seven well-known and outstanding universities: KU Leuven (Belgium), Helsingin Yliopisto (Finland), Université Paris 1 Panthéon-Sorbonne (France), Freie Universität Berlin (Germany), Uniwersytet Jagielloński (Poland), University of Edinburgh (UK), Universidad Complutense de Madrid (Spain).

UNA Europa is a transnational alliance currently composed of half a million people between students, researchers and teaching staff. 1Europe will be of particular relevance for them, because it will comprehend European joint degrees and exchange programmes for studying and researching in Italy, Spain, France, Belgium, Poland, Germany, Finland and the UK. The ultimate goal of 1Europe is to create an European campus with the ability to provide students and researchers with the best skills to face future challenges and therefore attract the best talents from all over the world.
