Learning outcomes
At the end of their internship, students should be able to plan their research or other intellectual work autonomously, and possess the necessary instruments to work autonomously and in a well organized way in professional contexts specifically related to their academic background. If required, students will also be able to illustrate the results of their activity in a methodologically correct oral or written form, with a high degree of accuracy.

The seminar has the goal of introducing the phenomenon of persuasion (in strategic as well as everyday communication) and to explore its emotive dimension in interaction, also encompassing features of sustainability.
Contents
Persuasion and emotion in interaction: linguistic perspectives
The seminar envisages a cycle of interactive meetings (for a total of 30 hours), with the goal of providing the attenders with the basic skills for the analysis of persuasive phenomena also from the perspective of gaining a linguistic awareness of them. The meetings will favour the active participation of the students, who will also be invited to proactively participate by contributing with textual cases of interest. Specific attention will be given to the most frequent problems related to the comprehension and management of the emotional feature in persuasive phenomena. Starting from an introduction to the phenomenon of persuasion in its complexity and with respect to the theme of its sustainability, the delicate relationship will be faced between emotion(s) in such as motivational trigger(s) and (expected) re-actions (emotional appeals in the persuadee – audience) and emotion in such as an instance which is present and played in persuasive language (emotion in the language, possibly metaphorized), how to detect it and eventually manage it. Potential problems related to this delicate interface will also be presented, even with respect to features of linguistic awareness and persuasion sustainability.
Participation in the seminar requires good working knowledge of English.
Students who should have problems in attending have to contact the professor before the beginning of the seminar to agree on specific exam modalities.
Readings/Bibliography
Texts and didactic materials will be suggested at the beginning of the seminar and some will be made available online, on Virtuale, at the beginning of the course.
Teaching methods
Lectures conducted in English, interactive meetings and workshops. The active participation of the students is fundamental for reaching the goals of this course.
Assessment methods
At the end of the seminar, the participants will have to present a case study, pre-agreed with the professor eventually accompanied by a mise-en-scene of a simulation, to obtain 3 cfu.
