Learning outcomes

At the end of the course, successful students know Literature and Philology of modern and contemporary Italian texts, through the reading and analysis of exemplary case studies.

Course contents

The course aims to introduce to the history of modern and contemporary Italian literature through the textual problems and editorial events of the texts of the twentieth century and presents some case studies of editing or authorship: Gadda, Montale, Bassani, Pasolini. Students will choose an author and a text on which to deepen a specific editing study, in a written paper, which will be the subject of the discussion during the oral exam.

Contents: 1. Introduction to the study of twentieth century Italian LIterature Phlology; 2-6 Editing Novecento: the author, the editor, the publisher; The texts: structures and forms; 7-9 Case studies: Gadda; 10-11 Montale; 12 Bassani; 13 Pasolini; 14 Keynotes of the Papers; 15 Conclusions.

The recommended readings are the same for students who attend the lectures and studentes who do not, because all lessons are recorded.

Teaching methods

Face-to-face classes lessons, php, materials in AMS campus.

Assessment methods

The exam is made up of a paper (maximum 25.000 bytes Bibliography included), sent by e-mail at least 15 days before the exam, in which students will deal with a topic of the course; and an oral discussion about the paper.

Reaching a clear view of all the course topics as well as using a correct language terminology will be valued with maximum rankings. Mnemonic knowledge of the course topics or not completely appropriate terminology will be valued with intermediate rankings. Unknown topics or inappropriate terminology use will be valued, depending on the seriousness of the omissions, with minimal or insufficient rankings.
