Learning outcomes

The theoretical course will look closely at syntax as well as some stylistic features and lexicography. At the end of the course the student will dispose of an average communicative competence, both oral and written, in order to satisfy her/his basic needs in everyday life, in different social and professional domains. Her/his competence should approximately reach  B1/B2 levels of the Common European Framework.

Course contents

Theoretical course contents: General syntactical terminology (in Russian language), relating to different types of sentences and members of the simple sentence.    

• Formation and use of active and passive participle. Short and long forms of participles.
• Formation and use of gerund. Verbal adverbs.
• Syntax of symple sentence and complex sentence.
• Transformation of a symple phrase in a complex one  and of an active phrase in a passive one. Exercises on translation from Italian to Russian.

Elements of stylistics, lexicology and pragmatics.

The practical course (lettorato), included in the course program, will train the students to the different linguistic abilities (comprehension, reading, listening, writing, speaking). The grammatical contents are the same of the thoretical course program, but will be developed on different communicative and thematic blocks. Teaching methods

The course in articulated in 30 hours of frontal lesson, in which the linguistic theorical competences are mainly developed. Grammatical and analytical method, practise of didactic translation.

Practical course (lettorato)  (lexical and grammar practice, reading, writing, oral comprehension and speaking) are an essential part of the teaching and exam programs. 

Assessment methods

The written exam consists of a grammar test and two small  translations  (one from Italian into Russian and another from Russian into Italian, both with bilingual dictionary) - about 4 hours. As to the translation from Russian into Italian is concerned, the students can attend the part devoted by prof. Niero to literary translation within the program of Letteratura russa 3. The final mark will be obtained by the average marks of the written and the oral exams.

The written exam is a prerequisite to the oral exam, which will include reading and linguistic analysis of a literary text in Russian as well as a conversation on an everyday topic dealt with during the practical course (lettorato) and agreed on with the teachers.
