Learning outcomes

By the end of this course students will:

- acquire and develop the knowledge of technical, organizational, managerial and artistic-professional aspects related to artistic disciplines, privileging the practical experience;

- integrate the practical experience with the historical, theoretical and critical knowledge.

Course contents

The laboratory will be configured as a theoretical-practical activity consisting of lectures and workshops during which students will work collectively measuring themselves on common themes with the aim of developing research projects and compare their cultural positions. The ultimate and essential aim of the laboratory is to direct students to understand the role of archives in clarifying the meanings and creative processes of contemporary artworks. The students will develop their research projects during the workshops and they will edit, in collaboration with the teacher and tutors, the presentation and discussion of the results.

Theme of the laboratory: Le Corbusier and the arts, 1940-1965

In the first part of the laboratory, Le Corbusier's post-war work will be critically examined, highlighting the relationship between art and architecture.

Starting from the analysis of this specific subject, and through laboratory activities, students will be provided with the necessary methodologies for the development of archival research and the drafting of texts and with the technical skills essential to the graphic presentation of an essay (the software used will be: Word or Page, Powerpoint or Keynote, InDesign and Photoshop).

During the laboratoryis required:

- to collect and study archival and bibliographic materials;

- to find the iconographic material useful to define the research;

- to draw up an accurate bibliography;

- to develop reflections on one's own subject of analysis;

- to present the research work.

On the basis of what has been learned during the laboratoryand from the materials collected, the students will have:

- to draw up an essay. The essay is individual and its structure should be organized as follow: introduction, central part (divided into paragraphs), bibliography. More information about the subjects of the essays and the editorial rules will be provided during the laboratory. The essays will be collected in a catalogue edited by the students;

- to edit the graphic design of the catalogue;

- to present a speech in images related to the subject analyzed;

- to actively participate in the laboratory (the percentage of admissions required is 80%. A constant participation is recommended).

Exhibition

The exhibition will be designed following the laboratory and will focus on the works produced by the students accompanied by the materials and documents collected during the research. The students, in collaboration with the teacher and the tutors, will design the exhibition setting up.
