Learning outcomes

At the end of the course students are expected to have a good knowledge of the basic issues of occupational risk factors in the dental hygiene sector. Students are also expected to be able to apply these principles to promote good practices taking into account workers' safety and health.

Course contents

- Occupational ergonomics: prevention of musculoskeletal disorders due to biomechanical and postural overload

- Occupational ergonomics: use of magnification devices in dentistry

- Exposure to chemical agents in the healthcare setting: health and safety data sheets, technical documentation, labeling, web based sources of information on toxicological issues, REACH regulation (for downstream users), exposure to irritating and sensitizing chemicals

- Diseases due to biological agents: prevention of percutaneous and airborne transmissible diseases, national (Emilia-Romagna Region Guidelines) and international (CDC) guidelines for protection of health care workers
