Learning outcomes

On completion of the course, students are able to write a report, as requested to a junior economic and financial analyst, and to effectively describe it. They learn abilities concerning: finding and organizing data, text-based and graphical information which will be used to write the report; handle data and information; abstract and simplify complex problems; apply knowledge and skills to the solution of theoretical and applied problems in economics and finance; design a report; skills and strategy for writing and presenting a report; oral presentation skills.

Course contents

This is an applied, computer-lab course. Students will learn, hands-on, how to find, organize, analyze (in a descriptive way) economic and financial data, and how to present the output to an audience through slides and reports.

The instructors will be mainly professionals working in the consulting sector, experts in market analysis and reporting. They will explain students how to plan, design and deliver economic and financial reports.

Students will play an active role and will be required to apply their knowledge in economics and finance, together with the specific skills of the current course. From a list of different topics, they will be asked to prepare their own report and then deliver it in public seminars.

Teaching methods

Teaching will combine traditional lecturing by experts in economic and financial reporting, and students' presentations to the class.

Assessment methods

Evaluation of students will be based on their written exam (60%) and oral presentation (40%).

Teaching tools

This is a “hands-on” course where students involvement is essential.
