Learning outcomes

M-PSI / 05

At the end of the workshop the student:

- learns how to apply the main theoretical models of Community Psychology;

- learns the dynamics of groups in social and community contexts.

M-PSI / 08

At the end of the workshop the student:

- learns the psychological assessment in relation to the clinical case;

- learns the basics of conducting a psychological consultation and the methodology of intervention in relation to the clinical case.

Course contents

The course will take place during the first semester for the two M-PSI/05 modules (October 2019-January 2020) and during the second semester for the M-PSI/08 part (March-May 2020) at the Department of Psychology, Cesena Campus (address: piazza Aldo Moro, 90 and viale Europa, 115).

M-PSI/05

The laboratory will allow students to learn and apply the methods and instruments of social psychology with respect to the experience of migration. Particular attention will be payed to the main strategies of prejudice reduction and social integration. Different types of acculturation orientations will be discussed, focusing on the perspectives of migrants as well as of the host society.

The laboratory includes the following activities:

1. Analysis of the possible psychosocial outcomes of the migration experience, with a focus on different factors that can affect such outcomes. Various strategies aimed at reducing prejudice and promoting social integration of migrants will be considered.
2. Critical analysis of interventions aimed to prejudice reduction and promotion of integration within different contexts (school, workplace, community, etc.). Evaluation of objectives, methods, feasibility, and effectiveness of the interventions. Discussion of their strengths and limitations.
3. Planning of a new psychosocial intervention (objectives and methodologies).

M-PSI/08

Students will be introduced to the methods of conducting a psychological consultation and to the assessment of problems taking into account different theoretical models in a biopsychosocial perspective.

The planned activities are the following:

1. Exercises on conducting a psychological consultation;
2. Framework and differential diagnosis of psychopathological suffering through the identification of signs, symptoms and syndromes in Clinical Psychology;
3. Comparisons between psychodynamic, cognitivist and systemic theoretical models and their use in Clinical Psychology;
4. Diagnostic assessment and hypothesis of psychological interventions in a biopsychosocial perspective;
5. Exercise and clinical examples regarding the assessment of attachment in early childhood and adulthood.

In addition to brief lectures, teaching methods will include:

  M-PSI/08

  Teaching methods will include:

• work in small groups
• presentations of clinical cases
• -video screenings of sessions with patients
• role-playing
• simulations of psychological interviews
• exercises in the planning of psychological interventions and support interviews

Assessment methods

M-PSI/05

To pass the exam students are requested to:

• attend classes and participate to discussions
• participate actively to a group presentation concerning the critical analysis of an intervention
• contribute to a group presentation concerning the planning of a new intervention

M-PSI/08

Active participation to the laboratory course is essential in order to get admitted to the final examination. The final evaluation will consist in a written exam concerning topics discussed during classes. This final examination will take place during the last class of the laboratory course.
