Learning outcomes

The course deals with the topics of pathophysiology and risk factors of chronic degenerative diseases concerning the critical role of nutrition both in the prevention and protection of health and in supporting the patient under treatment. Through this course, the student will acquire knowledge of the benefits related to the use of healthy diets capable of increasing the individual's state of well-being by contrasting, at the same time, those alterations in cellular homeostasis, oxidative stress, acute and chronic inflammation, or alterations of the endocrine balance, causes of the onset of chronic diseases. The teaching aims to provide the skills to accompany the patient to change and responsibly adopt a Healthy Lifestyle.

Principles of clinical nutrition: between health and disease.
Nutritional screening and evaluation.
Obesity.
Malnutrition.
Metabolic syndrome.
Adverse reactions to food.
Nutritional support.
Gastrointestinal tract. Celiac disease.
Nutrition and liver disease.
Nutrition and pancreas.
Nutrition in kidney diseases.
Nutritional and metabolic support in haematological diseases.
Pulmonary pathologies.
Cardiovascular pathologies.
Nutritional aspects of skeletal and neurodegenerative diseases.
Nutritional Aspects of Hereditary Metabolic Diseases.

No additions for non-attending students.

Teaching methods

Lectures, group activities, peer instruction, case study solutions and web research activities will support the student's learning process and achieve the educational objectives of the teaching.

The teaching participates in the University's didactic innovation project.

Assessment methods

At the end of this course, there will be an oral exam, which can be enrolled using the Almaesami application.

The purpose of the oral exam is to verify the student's ability to apply his or her knowledge and to perform the necessary ones
logical-deductive links.

Final grade:

-Very limited preparation on the topics of the program and analytical skills that emerge only with the help of the teacher expressed in an overall correct language → 18-19;

-Limited preparation on the topics of the program and ability to autonomous analysis only on purely executive matters, expression in correct language → 20-24;

-Wide preparation on the topics of the program, ability to make autonomous choices of critical analysis, mastery of specific terminology → 25-29;

-Substantially thorough preparation on the program topics, ability to make autonomous choices of critical analysis and connection, complete mastery of specific terminology and ability to argue and self-reflection → 30-30L.

Attendance to classes plays no role in the assessment process.
