Course contents

The primary objective of the module is the acquisition and consolidation by students of communication skills, basic strategies of linguistic mediation between Italian and Bulgarian and the ability to manage elementary interlingual and intercultural communication situations at a professional level.

Visual and Bulgarian translations and simulations of mediation in basic non-specialist communication contexts will be carried out: formal presentation of people, purchase in a shop, use of means of transport, catering services, leisure places, booking a room in the hotel, etc. During the course, topics related to culture will also be addressed, such as customs and holidays, but also bases of geography, history, religion, economics, politics, society. The required skills will be acquired through listening, memorization and reformulation exercises, preparation of glossaries and conversation on the topics covered. At the end of the course, students will be able to understand and produce basic oral speeches of the Bulgarian language and play the role of interpreter in the Bulgarian-Italian combination in simulations of negotiation interpretation of elementary communication situations carried out by the teachers on the topics covered during the course .

Teaching methods

Students will actively participate in simulations of liaison interpreting, role-play and visual translation exercises, as well as practicing various activities to improve comprehension, speech and memorization skills.

Assessment methods

Oral exam: mediation of a bilingual conversation and sight translation from Bulgarian into Italian and from Italian into Bulgarian.The grade of this Mediation form will count for 50% of the final grade. The remaining 50% will in fact consist of the mark obtained in the Bulgarian Language and Culture module.
