Learning outcomes

Students will be aware of the problems encountered in liaison/dialogue interpreting and able to manage basic strategies required to perform liaison/dialogue interpreting.

Course contents

This course will focus on the following grammatical topics:result complements, quantity complements, time complements, direction complements and ba sentence.

Students will participate actively in listening and speaking exercises.

The course also includes 20 hours of lecture with a chinese native language instructor.

Teaching methods

In addition to lectures focused on grammar and on speaking, listening and writing tasks will also be assigned to students, to be accomplished independently and handed in to the teacher for revision and correction.

Assessment methods

The exam consists of a written test and an oral test. 

The written test will last 2 hours and will include exercises similar to those that could be found in the textbooks indicated in the bibliography. Use of textbooks, notebooks, notes, dictionaries and / or digital tools is not allowed.

For the oral exam, students will be asked to read, translate and analyze a short text similar to those proposed in the textbook (Masini et al. Vol. 2).

The final mark of the annual course of Chinese Language and Dialogical Interpretation II is defined on the average of the marks received in Chinese Language and Culture II and Dialogical Interpretation between Chinese and Italian I.


Score scale:

30-30 L: student demonstrates excellent acquisition of all the grammatical topics and a high level of communication skills in Chinese.

27-29: in despite of some minor errors, the students shows a good level of linguistic knowledge and communication skills.

24-26: student demonstrates good knowledge about the main grammatical topics and is able to communicate in chinese, though with some errors and lacks.

21-23: student demonstrates major problems and imprecisions in language acquisition and comunication skills.

18–20: student demonstrate superficial understanding of the main topics, with major grammatical, lexical or phonological errors and evident difficolties in communication. 

insufficient: basic knowledge has not been acquired, student is unable to complete the test.

Teaching tools

Textbooks (with the related MP3 audio tracks downloadable from the publisher's website) and booklets provided during the course. Additional resources, including audiovisual ones, will be made available on the e-learning platform Virtuale.
