Degree Programme Second cycle degree programme (LM) in Geography and Territorial Processes (cod. 0971)
-
Course Timetable from Feb 02, 2023 to Mar 10, 2023
SDGs
This teaching activity contributes to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals of the UN 2030 Agenda.

Academic Year 2022/2023
Learning outcomes
The goal is to be able to reconstruct the spatial continuity of the territory starting from the discrete data of the same territory. Such continuity will have to meet the actual features (eg geomorphologic) of the territory. Methods that use interpolation processes based on statistical analysis will be proposed. We will work on data captured with geomatics and software on OpenSurce GIS platforms.
Course contents
The lectures is divided into 3 parts where the first involves the acquisition of competences in the use of some statistical tools (frequency distributions, statistical indices, variables and statistical inference), the second one is to provide students with Tools for description, interpretation and control of data by using open-surce software (QuantumGIS, GRASS, SAGA GIS) and the third part concerns the application of methods for predicting and interpolating data.
- Introduction to statistical analysis (frequency distributions and statistical indices)
- Geostatistics and regionalized variables (variograms, scatter plot and data analysis)
- Prediction Estimates and Interpolation Methods (Deterministic and Stochastic Interpolators)
Readings/Bibliography
Attending Students
For all students who attend the bibliography will be indicated at the beginning and during the course
Non-Attending Students
The bibliography will be the same as that of the attending students and will be published at the beginning of the course
Teaching methods
The course includes frontal lectures and collective exercises in the didactic lab. At the beginning of the course the teacher will provide all the information necessary for the final examination, bibliography and the development of the didactic program.
Attending students are required to have an attendance of no less than 80% of the expected hours
Assessment methods
Verification of learning will take place through an oral examination through which the degree of student learning will be verified in relation to the topics dealt with during the course and will be conducted through the discussion of the personal exercise that each student will perform in full autonomy and through the guidance Of the teacher.
Non-attending students will have to take the oral exam and must demonstrate that they have learned the content of the course program and succeed in setting up and solving a geostatic analysis problem. Even non-attending students will have to do an exercise agreed with the teacher and present it during the exam in order to discuss the exercise itself.
Teaching tools
PowerPoint projection, PC and software for displaying and analyzing simple data, that will be provided by the teacher.
