Conoscenze e abilità da conseguire: Il corso mira a introdurre i principali strumenti di analisi di economia applicata, illustrandone l’uso teorico ed empirico, con lo studio di problemi di consumatori, imprese e istituzioni pubbliche, legati al mercato, all’interazione tra agenti, e al benessere sociale. Il percorso formativo fornirà agli studenti e alle studentesse la conoscenza delle metodologie e le competenze necessarie a portare avanti un’analisi di economia applicata in laboratorio, dall’elaborazione dei dati al reporting.
Course contents
During the course, the main applied economics analysis tools will be presented, with a particular focus on applications to financial markets.
The course will have an applied approach: after a brief presentation of the economic and financial problem under a theoretical point of view, the students will use the acquired knowledge in the laboratory, making use of statistical softwares.
The main topics will concern:
- Investiment in financial markets
- Investiment in artworks as alternative assets
- Corporate investiment in scientific research
- Consumers' choice concerning loans and other financing methods

The professor will share slides and other teaching materials during the lessons, the materials will be available on the Virtuale platform.

Teaching methods
Lectures and PC laboratory practices.
The topics will be analysed under a theoretical point of view followed by an applied approach, using data from national and international research projects, making use of statistical softwares (STATA, Gretl) and languages (R).
Assessment methods
Written exam in lab (60% of the final grade, 1 hour) followed by oral exam (40% of the final grade). Both parts will concern the topics studied in class, both under the theoretical and the applied point of view.
The exam grade can be refused only once.
