Learning outcomes

At the end of the workshop the student: - is able to move independently in applying the specific techniques learned independently or within projects organized by the institutions; - knows how to deal with other subjects on the methods of use and documentation of the techniques learned; - knows how to place the specific knowledge learned in different types of service; - knows how to evaluate the limits and merits of the technical instruments learned; - knows how to transfer the technologies learned in different contexts by making personal modifications and additions.

Course contents

The main objective of the workshop is to promote oral storytelling and reading aloud, with a view to training an educator who is attentive to the dimension of storytelling aimed at children, in the specific setting of the nursery. The proposed exercises, activities, teaching materials will therefore be aimed at acquiring skills in terms of both verbal and non-verbal communication, expressive research techniques for one's own narrative style, and the ability to choose material suitable for the different ages of children.

Children's literature (fairy tales; wordless picturebooks, picturebooks; stories with sounds, noises and onomatopoeias; rhymes and nursery rhymes; books with holes, flaps and windows; everyday stories, etc.).

Teaching methods

Analysis of narrative materials aimed at choosing quality editorial products suitable for children of the nursery.
Video analysis showing interaction situations between children and adults who read.
Training aimed at paying specific attention to the quality of communication (verbal and non-verbal) in the narrative context; to apply expressive techniques when reading aloud; to know the styles of reading and to know how to use them for their different purposes; to provide an environment conducive to listening.
Group work. Discussion.

Assessment methods

Each student will have to make a video that demonstrates the skills acquired on the topics addressed in the workshop.
The video will be used for verification, but also for critical reflection by the student of his/her activity.
