Learning outcomes

Students will learn the theoretical principles of  epidemiology and hygiene and will be able to assess health problems in a community and how health and social care services meet the major needs of the population.

Course contents

Basic general prevention

Health determinants. Objectives and methods of primary, secondary and tertiary prevention. Health education.

Epidemiology and prevention of infectious diseases

Host-parasite relationships. Infection sources, routes of entry and elimination of infective agents, direct and indirect transmission, factors favouring infections.

General prophylaxis. Active and passive immunoprophylaxis; constitution and requisites of vaccine, precautions and contraindications, schedule for vaccines in newborns, vaccines for health operators.
