Learning outcomes

The learning outcomes is, after identifying the business characteristics of the non-profit Institute and the social enterprise, to deep the basic strategic orientation (mission, vision and values), the competitive formula and the competitive environments in which the social enterprise operates; is moreover identifying new strategic development prospects. At the end of the course the student is able to: - recognize the characteristics and problems of the different types of nonprofit companies; - recognize the typical management methods of social enterprise in different competitive environments; - evaluate the options for expansion/reduction of the range of activities of the company and the different strategies of relationship with the territory; - hypothesize cooperative strategies in the global era.

Course contents


1. Historical evolution of the non-profit phenomenon in Italy: from the non-profit association, to the company, to the social enterprise.
The social enterprises and the impact on management.

2. The main characteristics of non-profit companies, the Life Cycle and the organization evolution
3. Discussion of a case: Analysis and organizational redesign of a non-profit company

4. Personnel management and development

5. Introduction to corporate strategy Definition and history of strategic thinking.

The system of company choices.The company strategy.The new strategic perspectives.

6. Strategic planning : internal and external analysis
7. Collaborative theory is "winning without competing":

8. Discussion case The Cirque du Soleil.

9. New cooperative forms: The community interest companies
