Learning outcomes

At the end of the module the student has the knowledge and the ability to understand the basic computer skills necessary for the use of the main everyday computer tools, the management of the information systems of the services, the use of the network in research, in computer science medical, telemedicine and biomedical instrumentation.

Course contents

A) Fundamentals of computer science

  • The computer, the algorithm, the software
  • Computer and Internet networks

B) Introduction to health informatics

  • Main areas of information technology in health activities
  • Computer science and biomedical equipment - software as a medical device
  • e-Health and online services - National Telemedicine experiences
  • Dematerialization of documents in the clinical-health fieldand life cycle of medical documents in public health companies.
  • Document typologies and storage times
  • Protection and processing of health data

C) How to process a text document with a word processor

  • Electronic writing and word processing software
  • Create documents with MS-Word

D) How to process and analyze data with spreadsheets

  • Organize, synthesize, process, analyze and represent data with MS-Excel
  • Import / Export data
  • Export data to the R platform for statistical analysis (formats)
  • Create, store and share spreadsheets with Google Drive and Microsoft OneDrive

E) How to apply a digital signature to an IT document and how to transmit it electronically

  • Digital signature

F) How to search and select medical and scientific information on the Net

  •  Search the Net for medical information

Teaching methods

Frontal and online lessons on the theoretical part. Presentations of the applications to be known. Free and guided computer exercises.

As concerns the teaching methods of this course unit, all students must attend Module 1, 2 [https://www.unibo.it/en/services-and-opportunities/health-and-assistance/health-and-safety/online-course-on-health-and-safety-in-study-and-internship-areas] on Health and Safety online.

Assessment methods

There is a written test that will take place with the computer in a single session. The test consists of a test with questions (multiple choice) and possible exercises. The test aims to ascertain the possession of the knowledge and skills acquired.The time for the test is forty minutes.

The written test is assessed with a mark expressed out of thirty which will average with the physics and statistics mark. The student will be awarded only one grade for the integrated course of Physics, Statistics and Computer Science by the lecturer.
