The Literary Heritage of the Spanish Exile

A minimal (literary) chronicle of exile.

The literary testimony of the diaspora: Civil War, withdrawal, republican militancy.


Banishment and transtierro: the Mexican case between uprooting and acclimatization.


The impossible return: exiles and expatriates in late Francoism.

Exile literature and the concentrationary universe: the cases of Max Aub (French camps) and Jorge Semprún (Buchenwald)

Teaching methods

Traditional teaching (in Spanish) and student-led classes and seminars. 

Assessment methods

Even assuming the limitations of the formulas currently provided (online and / or blended meetings), it is understood that the student will have to participate in classes actively. This participation will contribute to the final evaluation.

Final exam (oral): students will prepare the short texts (poems, stories, novel extracts and essays) available on the IOL platform, which will be discussed in class in student-led seminars, and must demonstrate general competences about the cultural and historical phenomena addressed throughout the course.

In addition, they will prepare three full books,by different authors
