Learning outcomes

The course aims to present to the students recent topics in the field of Global Health. The course will mainly focus on critical assessment of recent health care reforms in LMICs; efforts to extend coverage of health care and improve universal coverage; issues in financing schemes of health care in LMIC; definition of healthcare policy priorities and the assessment of economic burden of disease in LMICs; the role of NGOs and multilateral institutions; key policy interventions on prevention, workforce planning, capacity building.

Teaching methods

The course will introduce the topics, using readings from the global health and economics literature. The instructor will introduce the topics, present the main theoretical and empirical elements and student will be asked to challenge the evidence and methods presented.

Assessment methods

The final exam will consists of two parts: a short essay to deliver to Prof. Armin Fidler for the first module, and a closed-book in-class exam of short-answer questions that assess the understanding of the topics discussed in class.
