Learning outcomes

Describe the clinical manifestations, etiology, epidemiology, risk factors, natural history, diagnosis, staging, prognostic indicators and management of the major cardiovascular diseases, with emphasis on those most commonly encountered in the clinical practice. Identify the major diagnostic and therapeutic options for each encountered clinical scenario, and discuss their benefits and limitations. Summarize decision-making algorithms for a correct differential diagnosis, prognosis, and treatment choice. Present and critically analyze clinical cases, discuss the differential diagnosis, and formulate appropriate diagnostic and therapeutic strategies for each case (Problem-Based Learning).

Lectures that will deal with the main pathologies in the cardiology field with the support of power-point slides

Assessment methods

The learning assessment is divided into partial oral tests, and consists of a series of questions aimed at ascertaining knowledge of the technological and design aspects presented in lessons and the solution to practical problems of the type of those faced during lesson hours. The student's achievement of an organic vision of the topics addressed in class combined with their critical use, the demonstration of mastery of expression and specific language will be assessed with marks of excellence. The mostly mechanical and/or mnemonic knowledge of the subject, unarticulated synthesis and analysis skills and/or a correct but not always appropriate language will lead to fair evaluations; training gaps and/or inappropriate language - albeit in a context of minimal knowledge of the exam material - will lead to grades that will not exceed passing grades. Training gaps, inappropriate language, lack of orientation within the bibliographic materials offered during the course can only be evaluated negatively. The teachers responsible for the courses participate in an overall collegial evaluation of the student's performance. The evaluation is expressed with a mark out of thirty. The oral test is passed with a grade of at least 18/30 In the case of a maximum mark (30/30), honors may be awarded The credits for the Integrated Course in Cardiovascular and Respiratory Diseases (14 CFU) are acquired upon passing the final assessment. If it is necessary to appoint multiple subcommissions at the same time for the same final assessment, the student has the right to request, in advance, no later than the start of the exam, to also be examined by the teacher responsible for the discipline. Passing the exam will be guaranteed to students who demonstrate mastery of the key concepts illustrated in the teaching. Online registration: AlmaEsami
