Learning outcomes
The course aims to provide students with the necessary knowledge to acquire skills in the field of energy conversion systems powered by fossil fuel sources (gas turbine groups, steam and combined cycle groups, cogeneration groups) or by renewable sources (hydroelectric plants, geothermal systems, photovoltaic and solar thermal systems, wind generators). The energy conversion technologies discussed in the course will be analyzed within the context of the current National, European and global energy scenario.
Course contents
ENERGY SOURCES:
MODULE I
Classification of energy sources; Classification of conversion systems from primary energy sources to useful energy.
SIMPLE CYCLE GAS TURBINES:
The simple cycle gas turbine group; Thermodynamic analysis of the Brayton cycle; Power and total efficiency of a gas turbine.
COMPLEX CYCLE GAS TURBINES:
Heat recovery gasturbine; Gasturbine with inter-cooler; Gasturbine with re-heat.
STEAM POWER PLANTS:
Hirne thermodynamic cycle; Power and total efficiency of a steam power plant; The adoption of re-heating; The adoption of bleed ports; Steam power plants with 3 bleed ports and re-heating.
COMBINED CYCLE POWER PLANTS:
One pressure level combined cycle power plants; two pressure levels combined cycle power plants.
MODULE II
WIND ENERGY:
Wind generators; Betz limit; anemologic study of a site.
HYDRAULIC ENERGY:
Pelton turbines; Francis turbines; Kaplan turbines; Flow-water plants.
Please Note: for each academic year, the final course contents drawn up on the basis of the lectures will be available in the "useful contents" section of the teacher's personal page at the end of the cycle of lessons

"Sistemi Energetici: Complementi" M. Bianchi, F. Melino, A. Peretto – Pitagora EditoreTeaching methods
The course consists of 6 credits in two modules. The course consists on theory lectures with also some lectures in which numerical examples and real applications will be presented.
Students with specific learning disorders (SLD) or temporary/permanent disabilities: We recommend contacting the University Office responsible for support services in a timely manner (https://site.unibo.it/studenti-con-disabilita-e-dsa/it) [https://site.unibo.it/studenti-con-disabilita-e-dsa/it):] ). The office will evaluate the students' needs and, where appropriate, propose possible accommodations. These must in any case be submitted for approval at least 15 days in advance to the course instructor, who will assess their suitability also in relation to the learning objectives of the course.
Assessment methods
The examination at the end of the course aims to assess the achievement of learning objectives, verifying the knowledge that the students have acquired about the coure topics.
The final grade is defined by a single oral exam, testing the student's knowledge in all topics covered in the 6 CFU.
Teaching tools
Teaching material presented in class will be made available to the student in IOL platform.
