Learning outcomes

At the end of the module the student possesses the ability to apply knowledge and understanding regarding the preventive and rehabilitative needs of the subject with neurolesion through the various methods of functional assessment.

Course contents

Methodological aspects of clinical reasoning.

The coding of functional systems through the ICF model.

The collection of anamnestic and psychosocial data of therapeutic-rehabilitative interest.

The observation and evaluation of functional systems in individuals with neurolesion:

- the assessment of structural and functional integrity and its impairments;

- the evaluation of assets and their limitations;

- the evaluation of participation in social life and its restrictions;

- the assessment of contextual factors: environment and people (facilitators and barriers).

The measurement of functional systems in people with neurolesion:

- characteristics of the measurement scales (hints of classical psychometry);

- measurement levels (nominal, ordinal, interval, ratio scales);

- composite and multidimensional scales (profiles and indexes);

- the timing of the measurement.

The main outcome measures:

- tools for measuring impairment;

- tools for measuring activity limitation;

- tools for measuring the restriction of participation.

Assessment methods

The test aims to verify the achievement of educational objectives:

- know the preventive and rehabilitative needs of the subject with CNS injury;

- know the various methods of Functional Assessment;

- know the main measuring instruments.

The written test will be considered passed by the correct answer to 10 open questions an to 10 quizzes relating to the main topics covered during the course and to clinical cases.


In evaluating the candidate's answers, particular attention will be paid to the acquisition of clinical reasoning and a logical-deductive method in the presentation of the contents

During the test, the use of mobile phones or supporting material such as handouts or notes is not allowed.
