91209 - STORIA DELLE ISTITUZIONI EUROPEE

Academic Year 2025/2026

Learning outcomes

Course contents

The aim of the course is to prepare future journalists, media specialists and professionals working within European institutions to use information about the European Union correctly and responsibly — an area often overlooked by national media.

Starting from the origins of the European institutions, the course will focus in particular on the period from 2009 to 2025, from the entry into force of the Lisbon Treaty up to the present day, addressing topics such as EU enlargement, Brexit, the Covid-19 pandemic, the NextGeneration EU plan, and the war in Ukraine.

The course will also explore sources of information on the EU, through the use of press reviews (consulted and produced by the participants) which will then be turned into written articles.

For the oral examination, students are required to read Antonio Varsori’s book, Storia della costruzione europea dal 1947 a oggi, Bologna, Il Mulino, 2023.
