Course contents
The course offers a series of reflections on potential educational actions aimed at individuals with disabilities or in conditions of marginalization, through the discussion of theoretical, methodological, and experiential issues.
Particular attention will be given to the elements of complexity within contexts that limit opportunities for growth, emancipation, and change.
The course will cover the following topics:
- Definition and epistemological identity of Special Pedagogy;
- Inclusive educational models and theories (bio-psycho-social model, ICF framework);
- Critical perspectives from Disability Studies (social representations of disability);
- Rights of persons with disabilities, self-determination, empowerment, quality of life, and the development of life projects;
- Special education within contexts of social marginalization, with a particular focus on the prison system (as a space that aggregates and amplifies marginalization);
- Critical analysis of the rehabilitative function of prison;
- Educational processes and processes of social exclusion.
Operational tools will be developed in parallel with a critical re-reading of selected texts by Paulo Freire and bell hooks, exploring their contemporary relevance in relation to the ability to communicate and to continuously construct shared linguistic codes.

Assessment methods
The exam is divided into two parts. The same test is given to both attending and non-attending students.

The test consists of a group (recommended option) or individual critical analysis of a book of your choice (see above), discussing the topics covered in the text from a pedagogical point of view.
Further information will be provided on the Virtual Platform.
Second test (70% of the final assessment)
A written test with open-ended questions based on the content of the exam texts and the teaching materials available in the virtual spaces (Virtual Platform).
Students with DSA or disabilities: it is recommended that they contact the responsible University office (https://site.unibo.it/studenti-con-disabilita-e-dsa/en/for-students) as soon as possible. The request for adaptation must be submitted in advance (15 days before the exam date) to the lecturer, who will assess the appropriateness of the adjustments, considering the teaching objectives.
