Learning outcomes

At the end of the course, the student will have acquired the core competencies related to analytical processes, as outlined by the theoretical, didactic, and practices typical of laboratory and seminar-based activities.

Course contents

The program covers the following topics:

  • Scientific research in the biomedical field: research methodology, experimental design and basic principles of laboratory-applied statistics

  • Laboratory data analysis and evaluation: analytical and diagnostic performance, accuracy, precision, and reproducibility of results

  • Use of software tools (e.g., Microsoft Excel): data management, analysis, and visualization

  • Interpretation of experimental results: critical approach to data interpretation, with practical examples based on results from common laboratory techniques (PCR, ELISA, spectrophotometry)

  • Literature search and technical writing: identification of reliable scientific sources, effective use of PubMed, and guidelines for writing scientific articles and technical reports

Frontal lectures and computer lab exercises

Assessment methods

Eligibility assessment will be evaluated by a practical exercise.
