Course contents

The course is aimed at students of the 3rd year. Lessons will be held in the Deparment of Psychology on the CESENA CAMPUS (FC).

Both modules are in strict continuity with the course of Developmental Psychology (first year teaching), with respect to which some themes will be taken up again and deepened. The integration of the two Teaching Modules, in the field of Developmental Psychology and Education, offers students the opportunity to build connections between disciplines, methods and research themes.

The two complementary modules propose contents and methods contribuiting to the understanding of the discipline:

  • the relevance of socio-cultural aspects for the socio-cognitive development
  • psychological models underlying the socio-cognitive development
  • the relevance of socio-cognitive conflict and of challenges for the socio-cognitive development
  • the relevance of digital and emergent technologies (virtual reality, robotics and artificial intelligence) for the socio-cognitive development
  • Examples of studies and researches using digital and emergent technologies for the development of knowledge and skills in lifecycle.

More specifically:

Teaching module 1: prof. Elvis Mazzoni (30 hours)

The contents of the module refer to the following topics:

  • the origins of educational psychology
  • the relationship between culture, development and learning
  • the historical-cultural perspective
  • the perspective of socio-cognitive development
  • the socio-constructivist perspective and reflection on research results

Teaching Module 2: Prof.ssa Martina Benvenuti (30 hours)

The module will propose the following contents:

  • From Piaget to Papert: constructivism and constructionism
  • From Vygotskij to Leont’ev: zone of proximal development and functional organs
  • The effects of digital technologies on socio-cognitive development
  • Networked Flow: digital technologies and creative networks
  • Developmental Robotics - Example of the use of robots to develop knowledge and skills in children

For both modules, programmes and contents are the same for students attending and not-attending lessons.

Teaching methods

Both teaching modules include:

  • frontal lessons with slides and video
  • films and videoclips
  • discussions of video materials
  • presentations of research tools and methods

All the contents (or the information to access to them) will be uploaded on the Virtuale platform.

Assessment methods

The course does not include any intermediate tests (in progress) or immediately at the end of the lessons.

The final evaluation aims to verify the achievement of the course's objectives:

  • knowing the main theoretical approaches on the subject of lifelong learning;
  • beong able to use investigative tools in educational and training situations;
  • being able to analyze educational intervention proposals addressed to groups and individuals.+

The final exam is oral and it will be based on five (5) questions. Each question will be evaluated from 0 to 6.

To sustein the exam, students are required to register to the AlmaEsami platform.

The evaluation will be based on the sum of the scores obtained in the 5 questions and the evaluation will be communicated immediately at the end of the oral exam. Students are given the option to immediately accept the evaluation obtained or to reflect and give an answer within the following day.

The oral exams will be held in person. Registration for the exams takes place through the Almaesami platform. The registered students will be divided into shifts of approximately 30 students per day and the system will immediately provide the date and time of their exam, following the order of registration. However, the timetable is subject to change based on any withdrawals, so it is recommended to view your reservation at the end of registration (approximately 2 days before the exam).

Teaching tools

During the lectures, slides and video clips on wide screen will be projected and discussed. The slides will be available to students on the University's web platform Virtuale (specific directions will be given during class and also made available by email).
