Learning outcomes
t the end of the course, the student is able to: Use the tools and methods of economic geography for the analysis of sport tourism destinations Evaluate the impact of sport and tourism activities on local sustainability Develop sustainable local development projects at the intersection between sport and leisure
Course contents
At the end of the course the student should be able to analyse the local systems of tourism supply with reference to sport and wellness activities.
Contents of the lectures will be:
I. Sport and Tourism: defining and measuring the phenomenon (international, national and local scale)
- Tourism and sport: overlapping definitions
- The geographical approach to tourism and sport
- Tourism demand: trends and forecasts in tourism
- Tourism supply:analyzing local systems
- Social, cultural, economic and political factors affecting the relationship between tourism and sport
II. Sport, Tourism and space between planning and management
- Tourism management in urban areas (urban regeneration, spatial segregation, hosts guests relationships, mega events, etc.)
- Tourism management in rural areas (socio cultural carrying capacity, measuring sport events economic impact, environment impact assessment, etc.)
- How to plan and develop sustainable tourism products
III. Sustainable Tourism
- Notion of sustainable tourism
- Controversies of tourism sustainability
- Sport tourism in a sustainability approach
- Project design for sustainable tourism development
- Creative tourism for local development

Teaching methods
Traditional lectures will be integrated with practical exercises and if possible field visits
Assessment methods
Students will be given two individual assignments and one teamwork assignment on Virtuale during the course. The final evaluation of the integrated course will be the average of all the marks collected for the assignments in this module and in the module of Prof. Giovanardi. If in the current year students are involved in fieldwork activities, the final evaluation will be also organized on the basis of a project work. Students will be informed about that at the beginning of the course.
