Learning outcomes

At the end of the module, the student will have the knowledge and ability to understand the concepts and possible applications of basic statistics in the biomedical and clinical fields, ranging from anthropometry to biometrics, as well as the planning, organization, and management of healthcare services.

  1. Introduction to statistics
  2. Descriptive univariate and bivariate statistics
    -Types of variables
    -Relative, absolute, and percentage frequencies
    -Descriptive data analysis: measures of central tendency and measures of variability
    -Two-way tables
    -Joint, marginal, and conditional frequencies
    -Measure of association between two variables (chi-square)
  3. Statistical inference and probability
    -Hypothesis testing and confidence intervals
    -Logistic regression
  4. Study protocol
  5. Use of Excel in data processing
    -Creating a database
    -Tables and charts
    -Calculation of descriptive statistics
  6. Overview of the use of indicators in healthcare
    -Types of indicators
  7. Practical group exercises
