  • Campus: Bologna
  • Corso: First cycle degree programme (L) in Techniques and Management for Construction and Land (cod. 6008)

Learning outcomes

At the end of the Principles of Structural Mechanics course, the student knows the basics of the mechanical behavior of building materials, the statics of structures, the basic criteria for verifying the performance of construction elements when used for structural applications.

Course contents

Requirements/Prior knowledge

A prior knowledge and understanding of basics of mathematical analysis, linear algebra is required to attend with profit this course.

Fluent spoken Italian is a necessary pre-requisite: all lectures and tutorials, and all study material will be in Italian.

Teaching methods

The course content will be entirely covered by the lectures. The course includes some exercise sessions, which will cover the practical aspects of the lectures.

Assessment methods

The final examination is structured in two phases: a first written exam, without using notes or books, followed by an oral exam. The written exam consists of a few simple exercises and will be reviewed at the presence of the students. Students need to obtain a sufficient grade in the written test to be admitted to the oral exam. The oral exam consists of some questions intended to assess the knowledge and understanding of the topics covered by the course.

To obtain a passing grade, students are required to demonstrate a knowledge of the key concepts of the subject and some ability for critical application.

Teaching tools

Blackboard, video projector, interactive tests to verify the acquired knowledge.
