B2623 - Special Kinesiology

Academic Year 2023/2024

  • Moduli: Pasqualino Maietta Latessa (Modulo 1) Guido Belli (Modulo 2)
  • Teaching Mode: Traditional lectures (Modulo 1) Traditional lectures (Modulo 2)
  • Campus: Rimini
  • Corso: Second cycle degree programme (LM) in Sciences and Techniques of Preventive and Adapted Physical Activities (cod. 9263)

Learning outcomes

At the end of the course the student:

has competence in analyzing the efficiency of the effector system and the static and dynamic postural response using modern ergometric, metabolimetric, posturometric and proprioceptive technologies; - will be able to plan the kinesiological intervention aimed at the consolidation of the state of form, at the prevention of atrophic degenerative morbid conditions, at the disposition and control of physical exercise in trophostatic syndromes, in the alterations of the capacity of the cardiovascular system and in the recovery of different physical abilities; - has precise knowledge of the principles and methodology for evaluating joint mobility and muscle strength as essential elements for accurately ascertaining the current state of a subject, his progress and the effectiveness of the physical training program. - will have solid skills in assessing the mobility of various joint complexes with methodologies for measuring each joint movement and will also be able to administer tests for the manual examination of muscle strength in different postures and attitudes.

Course contents

The goal of kinesiological intervention and the fields of action :

  • Preventive
  • Formative and/or conservative
  • Recreational
  • Reducational in sports
  • Adapted Physical Activity

Non-healthcare exercise programs carried out in groups or in special cases individually , specially prepared for citizens with noncommunicable and stabilized chronic diseases, directed at maintaining residual motor skills and aimed at lifestyle modification.

Risk assessment and preventive interventions

Intrinsic risk factors

Scientific evidence

Multisystem syndrome and reduced autonomy

Intervention protocol

Basic motor pattern, a constitutive element of human motility that autonomously every human being achieves by a natural concatenation of postural patterns.

Passenger Unit and Locomotor Unit

Gait Cycle , postural adaptation and dynamic stability

Muscle Intervention

Evaluation systems

Chronic progressive disease that results in decreased bone density, acting on both the mineral (calcium and phosphorus) and organic components, due to an acquired imbalance in the hormonal regulatory system that normally governs skeletal tissue

Scientific evidence

Intervention protocols

A neurodegenerative disease characterized by a slow and progressive decline in normal physiological functions involving motor, vegetative, behavioral, and cognitive pathways.

Scientific Evidence.

Individual and group intervention protocols

The term was introduced by two Canadian researchers (Smythe and Moldofky) in 1977.Fibromyalgia (FM) is a chronic disease characterized by generalized musculoskeletal pain

Scientific evidence

Intervention protocols

Consists of the creation of a course of work aimed at the recovery of joint mobility and muscle capacity compromised by injury or surgery.

Intervention protocols

Students must carry out prior and mandatory safety training.

In view of the type of activity and teaching methods adopted, attendance of this training activity requires prior participation of all students in Modules 1 and 2 of training on safety in the workplace, in e-learning mode

Currently regular physical exercise and training are considered a possible solution during the period of the disease by limiting the deconditioning process and achieving an optimal level of activity of the subject and many physical and mental health benefits without any concern for the onset or exacerbation of disease symptoms or recurrence. Scientific proof Intervention protocols

The phenomenon of falls in the elderly: assessment and intervention methods

Unstable surfaces as tools for training balance and neuromuscular control

Gait analysis: theoretical aspects regarding Gait Analysis

The role of the kinesiologist in Adapted Physical Activity

Muscle and tendon injuries : classification, characteristics and clinical aspects

Core training as an elite form of intervention for LBP

The problems of the upper extremity

The student is informed that the indepth study of the topics requires constant updating related to new instrumental technologies and scientific evidence regarding the various application methodologies. Precisely for this reason and also for the multiplicity of topics, the lessons will take place with the help of the slides that will serve as a reference for further insights with the recommended texts. To follow the lessons it is advisable to refer to the didactic material deposited during the previous academic year and then integrate it with the lessons held in the classroom.

The course does not have a single reference text.

Teaching methods

Lectures for basic topics, supplemented by exercises with organized groups and with compulsory attendance.

During the course, seminars will be organized by highly qualified personnel and concerning application aspects. The topics of the seminars held will form an integral part of the program and may be subject to verification during the examination.

Some seminars may be organized online

Assessment methods

The verification method is written.

The written test will aim to verify the possession of a sufficient knowledge of the basic notions of the discipline. The test will consist of 30 multiple choice questions and some open-ended questions

Teaching tools

The lessons will be accompanied by visual and audiovisual aids. As part of the practical exercises, the course has equipment for the assessment and teaching of motor activity in reference to Adapted Physical Activity

Didactic material: The didactic material presented in class is made available to the student in electronic format via the internet. This material will provide the guidelines for the in-depth analysis carried out during the lessons.
