Learning outcomes

By the end of the laboratory the student: knows the main research methodologies in the respective field of study; acquires an in-depth knowledge of the structure and organization of an argumentative text; is able to collect and organize primary and secondary sources, and to write a bibliography; knows how to apply appropriate editorial criteria in the finalization of the text.

Course contents

The Laboratory for the writing of the dissertation aims to provide students in the DAMS in music the necessary tools to write their three-year degree thesis, as well as other types of texts required during their university studies, such as essays, papers, abstracts, and CVs.

During the workshop, the following topics will be addressed:

-How to choose the dissertation's topic
-How to submit a subject
-How to structure the dissertation
-Bibliographic research
-Use of sources (primary, secondary, oral, archival, digital)
-Organization and writing of the text
-How to prepare an abstract

Enrollment

To participate, interested students need to send an enrollment request to silvia.bruni6@unibo.it, by October 20, 2023. The registration request should include the student's name, surname, matriculation number, degree course attended.

Recommanded readings (not mandatory):

Vera Gheno, La tesi di laurea. Ricerca, scrittura e revisione per chiudere in bellezza, Zanichelli, Bologna 2019.

Additional bibliographical references, useful for writing texts related to music, will be provided during the lessons.

 

Teaching methods

Lecturing, practical exercises and group work.

Active student participation is a key component of the Laboratory.


Assessment methods

The Laboratory does not have an exam. Eligibility will be determined based on active participation in the lessons, which will be monitored through the attendance register. To qualify for eligibility, it is essential to attend at least 80% of the classes.

Teaching tools

Reading and analysis of texts as well as in-class writing exercises.
