Learning outcomes
This course is mostly based on field and laboratory activities aimed at developing a project experience to characterize the various aspects of a selected study area. Various disciplines contribute to this course that has large part of group activities.
Course contents
A period of interdisciplinary activities on field useful to acquire direct experience of different types of instrumental investigation to characterize a specific area under the geological, soil, chemical, geo-biochemical, bio-ecological, weather, clima, etc. profile. The data acquired will analyzed, drawn up and showed by GIS (Geographic Information System), both through thematic maps that relations technical-scientific, during two more weeks of activity in the laboratory
Readings/Bibliography
There is no recommended reading but various materials (scientific articles, software, databases, web sites, etc.) that will in time to time provided during all the activities.
Teaching methods
Practice in the field and laboratory under the direct supervision of teachers of sector, applying sampling protocols and collecting field data. Direct use of numerous instruments both in the field and in laboratory.
Assessment methods
The assessment method will be a public presentation in which all the subjects investigated during the practical activities are presented and discussed. The interpretative work is made by group, each one working on a specific subject, among those considered during the field and laboratory work. In the public occasion all the presentations are coordianted so to cover all the arguments considered are presented. In addition to this each one of the candidates must presente a diary of the activities performed either in the field and in the lab.
Teaching tools
Field activities include sampling and survey using specific instrumentation which is briefly introduced and used. During laboratory activities several analytical procedures are applied on the samples collected in the field.
