Learning outcomes

The student knows the basic features (terms, concepts and methods) needed for the study of the structure, functions and textual organization of the French language; s/he knows the basic techniques required for information mining, drafting, editing and revising texts; s/he is able to understand, analyze and coherently produce complex written texts (but also oral speeches) belonging to various specialized text types and genres, particularly multimedia ones.

Course contents

1. Brief overview of the media situation in France.
2. The basics of argumentation (syllogisms, paralogisms, sophisms, etc.).
3. Knowledge of terms and concepts related to communicative text analysis (language acts, Jakobson's functions, embrayé/non-embrayé text, etc.).
4. Language in social media.
5. Practical analysis of different communicative texts (newspaper articles, advertisements, tweets, etc.).

Teaching methods

The course will alternate between lectures (especially in the initial part) and seminar-type lessons on the analysis of communicative texts. The students will be also asked to present their work in front of the class and produce a communicative text on a topic of their choice.

The French language module will be closely supported by 20 hours of laboratory exercises given by lecturer Marie Line Zucchiatti (https://www.unibo.it/sitoweb/marieline.zucchiatti) with 70% compulsory attendance.

 Please note that students are required to attend 70% of the course lectures.

Assessment methods

The final grade will be the sum of the presentation given in class (50%) and the oral examination (50%) to be held at the end of the course.

The modalities of the oral examination will be presented during the course.
