Learning outcomes

Upon completion of the course, the student knows the main formats of food and wine product communication for audiovisual media and can relate these products to the production and distribution context in which they were developed. Student develops some critical, analytical and practical tools for understanding and communicating food and wine products in audiovisual media and has basic notions related to the forms of promotion and marketing of food and wine products in the media (e.g., product placement and branded content).

Course contents

The course focuses on specific media areas, particularly television and digital media. During the course we will analyze the communicative modes and discursive formulas with which the media deal with the topic of food and wine. We will then work on the analysis of some popular models and genres and introduce in-depth case studies. Then, principles and methodological tools will allow students to acquire skills related to the conception, production and management of digital contents related to the promotion of food and wine products.

Readings/Bibliography

Students will have to read and study a set of book chapters and academic articles available on the course teaching platform. Although the course is delivered in Italian, some readings may be in English.

Teaching methods

Lectures with Power Point and Prezi supports, projections of audiovisual materials, and in-class activities.

Assessment methods

The examination consists of a paper and an oral discussion. The topic of the paper should always be agreed upon, including by e-mail, with the Professor.

The achievement of an organic vision of the themes, the use of specific language, the ability to show a systematic knowledge will be evaluated with excellent grades. Knowledge that is too much based on the readings, a non-articulated ability to synthetize or analyse, or a correct but not always appropriate language, like a school domain of the discipline, lead to average evaluations. Gaps in knowledge or inappropriate language, such as a lack of knowledge of readings and contexts, allow the student to obtain grades on the threshold of sufficiency. Knowledge gaps, inappropriate language, lack of familiarity with the bibliography and inability to analyze are evaluated negatively.

All of the students must sign up to the exam through AlmaEsami. It won't be possible to test students who can't sign up because of delays in the submission of the study plan, in the tax payments, etc. Students who won't be able to take the exam must sign off the list. Please also note that it is necessary to show up for roll call with an ID.

Students with DSA who need adjustments are asked to write to the lecturer with the Office of Students with DSA in cc.

Teaching tools

Power Point, Prezi, VIRTUALE. Class discussions will be stimulated and encouraged through digital tools as Mentimeter.

During the first class, all the teaching methods and tools used will be introduced.
