Learning outcomes

At the end of the course the student : - knows the characteristics of the development of normal pregnancy and those related to physiological childbirth - is able to recognize the main pictures of maternal pathology-fetal in pregnancy and has notion about the elements related to their clinical management - knows the basics of reproductive function and its main alterations - is able to recognize the main diseases of the female reproductive system and have notion on their management - is able to recognize the picture of oncological pathology of the female genital system and the elements related to their early recognition and management

Course contents

Embryo, fetal appendages, teratogenesis. Maternal modifications in pregnancy. Pregnancy control, obstetric ultrasound, drugs in pregnancy and during lactation. Childbirth. Obstetric operations. Congenital abnormalities: diagnosis and screening. Infectious diseases in pregnancy. Abortion and vesicular mole. Ectopic pregnancy. Antierythrocyte alloimmunizations. Placenta previa and the untimely detachment of placenta. Premature birth. Hypertension in pregnancy. Restriction of intrauterine growth. Diabetes in pregnancy. Twin pregnancies. Maternal diseases and pregnancy. From symptoms to the diagnosis of the main obstetric pathologies. The reproductive axis and the regulation of the female gonadal function in different periods of life. The menstrual cycle. Menstrual irregularities. Hyperandrogenisms and PCOS. Pathophysiology and clinical menopause. Contraception. Endometriosis and chronic pelvic pain. Sterility. Techniques of Medically Assisted Procreation. Vaginal, pelvic and sexually transmitted diseases. Viral genital phgosis. Benign Gynecological Pathology. Endometrial pathology and endometrial carcinoma. Cervical pathology and cervical carcinoma. Ovarian neoplasms. Genital prolapse and urinary incontinence. Benign and malignant vulvar and vaginal lesions. Diagnostic techniques and diagnosis in gynecology. The new surgical approach and minimally invasive surgery in gynecological pathologies.

Assessment methods

The final exam aims to evaluate the achievement of the teaching objectives. The final assessment consists of an oral test that aims to verify the student’s ability to apply their knowledge and perform the necessary logical-deductive links.

Grade of final grade:

Preparation on a very limited number of topics addressed in the course and analytical skills that emerge only with the help of the teacher, expression in the correct language 18-19;

Preparation on a limited number of topics addressed in the course and autonomous analysis skills only on purely executive issues, expression in correct language 20-24;

Preparation on a large number of topics covered in the course, ability to make autonomous choices of critical analysis, mastery of specific terminology 25-29;

Basically exhaustive preparation on the topics covered in the course, ability to make autonomous choices of critical analysis and connection, full mastery of specific terminology and ability to argue and self-reflection 30-30L.
